400mhz ARM11 processor, 256mb of DDR RAM. Jesus christ on a coffee cup that's terrible.

Pretty sure my calculator can outperform that.

My ThinkPad T21 has a 750MHz processor and 256mb RAM... and it's from 2000.

It's funny cause our dual band Asus router has better specifications than that!

My phone is more powerful than that, so why would I hook it up to a shittier computer?

What OS are you running on it?

I rarely use it, but it has 95 and NT4 on dual boot.

My Raspberry-Goddamn-Pi has better specs. And it cost $35 instead of being a $1000 option

sweet bebe jeeses, my old dell Inspiron 1000 is WAAY better.
So does this mean one could hook up an old dell to a Ford Edge and it be an UPGRADE?

Aaaaaaaaaand i thought the iDrive on Rolls Royce is terrible.
It's like iDrive, but from 2004.

Because its in a Ford?

And you get charged hundreds of dollars for it.
Kinda like Infiniti charging $2000 for a Nav system with a 40 GB hard drive.

I hope MyFordTouch is better, but it's probably a rebranded and identical to Sync. ._.

40GB HDDs still exist?

This kind of thing is so confusing to me.. Processing power has gotten so cheap now, why don't they put better infotainment systems in cars? Every system I have ever used has been hilariously underpowered. are they recouping costs by chopping mhz? It seems like such a simple value add for something almost every driver of the companies cars will use everyday. And if cost really is that much of an issue, why not make the entire thing standardised and modular, so end users have a choice?

I have a netbook that is obsolete enough that all it does is hold my printer up and it has an 800MHz Celeron and 1GB of RAM.

That's pretty fucking awful. Why Auto companies don't just go out buy a 2-year old Qualcomm SoC and just use that is fucking beyond me. You don't even need to add other ISP like bluetooth support or a dedicated cell modem. It's all integrated into the SoC.

This is immediately where my mind went, as well. Just picked up my second for a project (new B+). Every time I hear about small single-board computers, I start comparing their stats to the Pi's.

Sync is a java-based interface on top of an ancient version of Windows CE. The next version will be QNX-based which is faaarrrrrr more frugal

There is absolutely no accounting for or explaining the ridiculous decisions of corporate beancounters.

How is the new B+? I have a first-gen B but right now its just being used as an IRC bouncer. I need to get another for actual embedded projects.

It has more USB ports, video is only done through HDMI, it uses a Micro SD instead of standard SD card, and it has more GPIO pins. The processor and memory are the same as the B.
If you're looking for more power, the B+ isn't it. Same old machine, just more convenient to use.

No more RCA video? That's an interesting choice, given the higher cost of HDMI-compatible equipment to use with your price-of-a-good-coffee computer

I was a little surprised by the move away from RCA, as the whole idea was to provide a cheap computer that could be used with found equipment just about anywhere. Requiring HDMI seems almost counter-intuitive.
For my next project, I'll have to use the B, as it's going in a spare bedroom that doesn't have anything other than an old CRT TV. I guess I could buy an HDMI adapter and use a real monitor...but why?

Yep. 900HD, with 120gb of storage.
